Al Hoeksema has lived in the San Antonio area since the age of five. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in downtown San Antonio in 1987. In 1992, he graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree, with a concentration in ceramics under professor Steve Reynolds. After graduation he became employed at a local pottery where he learned the skills to begin his own pottery business.

Jeni Hoeksema was born in McMinnville, Oregon. She has been a freelance artist all of her life. She has done illustrations for various businesses over the years. She now enjoys carving and illustrating on pottery that Al throws on the wheel.

In 1995 Al & Jeni met and over time discovered they should start their own pottery and art studio. They built and started their own studio in 2000 in the Texas Hill Country, town of Spring Branch, which is located about 30 miles north of San Antonio. Together they produce a line of functional pottery and one of a kind art pieces.
